Philip Eugene Perry (January 12, 1952) is an R&B singer, songwriter, musician, and a former member of the soul group, The Montclairs (1971-75). He was known for performing the opening song to Goof Troop.

Discovered by Catholic nuns while singing high masses in his Catholic Church (St. Elizabeth in East St. Louis) and a high-school talent show favorite, he wrote and recorded his first single “Hey You” with The Montclairs, who were based in East St. Louis. They were signed to the Archway Records label in 1969. The song is considered to be the first of a classic soul collection of his ‘Old School’ singles popular in the 1970s.

In the 1990s, he scored his first #1 R&B hit “Call Me”, as well as the top-forty R&B singles “Amazing Love” and “Forever”, all from the album The Heart of the Man (1991), his first solo release.

He is a featured vocalist on recordings by Michel Colombier, Don Grusin, Dave Grusin, Freddie Hubbard, George Duke, Najee, Bill Withers, Barbra Streisand, June Pointer, Johnny Mathis, The Benoit-Freeman Project, Sergio Mendes, Bobby Womack, Chaka Khan, Fourplay, George Benson, and Will Downing, among others. Solo hits also include “Love Don’t Love Nobody” and “One Heart, One Love.” He is featured on the Bebe’s Kids soundtrack. Other film song credits include Roots, Pretty in Pink, Short Circuit, Mr. Wonderful, Nice Girls Don’t Explode, Riding Bean, Captain Ron, and a cameo appearance in Crossing Over.

In 1991 he released his first solo album and toured with labelmate Dave Koz for the next several years, going on to record 4 more albums.

March 2013 saw the release of Say Yes, his 10th solo album. It charted in the Top Ten on Billboard and A.C. Smooth Jazz charts, as well as receiving Smooth Jazz top vocal credits. Say Yes continued its steady climb to become one of Billboard’s 2014 top smooth-jazz singles, featuring Perry in a classic duet cover of Where Is the Love?

The 11th solo release, A Better Man, was #1 on the Billboard Contemporary Jazz chart in the first week of its release. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence

So now things have settled and everything I needed to repair, replace or licence has been done, I resubbed to Pro Wrestling Eve and Stardom for my wrestling fix. So been catching up with happenings and storylines from the last three months. Both promotions have a great mix of action and mucking about.

A nice surprise is that my Eve sub gets me some Riptide, XWA and OTT shows too, so I can get a look at those promotions too.

Wrestling things that have made me smile and are in the photos above.

1. Kaori Yoneyama ain't gonnae fall for your fancy moves.

2. Meiko Satomura on a merry-go-round.

3. Kris Wolf being her usual grin inducing self.

4. The debut of the greatest tag-team in the world, iconic children's TV presenter Dave Benson Philips and Session Moth Martina.

5. Hazuki and Kagetsu are getting on a lot better than last time I watched.

Don't have a pic of it, but Viper giving her opponent a Canadian Destroyer was a thing of awesome beauty.

NOTES: Two days before the show closed on Broadway. Good amount of closeups and good quality filmed from the mid-mezzanine; there is a railing issue for a while in Act 1 but the taper improves. 'Me', 'Gaston' and 'Be Our Guest' are all predominantly missing and recording stopped for some time after 'Gaston', which created a little jump in the timeline to where Maurice gets thrown out of the tavern. Still a nice video with great closeups of the last Broadway cast.

What's missing is: Grandma's song "We Go Dancing", the scene between Dad and Tony, the beginning of "Deep Into The Ground", and the scene between Mrs. Wilkinson and Dad discussing Billy's ballet. It appears the filmer was trying to conserve battery power and was trying to focus on Billy's scenes. DVD has been enhanced with main menu and thumbnail images for access to the various songs. A-

Pierce is perfect as McKinley. Tallia also does a great job; she has a strong belt and does an endearing rendition of Sal Tlay Ka Siti. This is a very nice capture with no obstruction or blackouts, and only a bit of washout in superwide shots of high-contrast scenes. The video is very steady and the sound is excellent as usual. It’s filmed in 16:9 with a mix of wides, mediums, and close-ups. Includes curtain call.

Dimension Jump XIX - Day 1

It's Friday night here at DJ and it's already been a bit crazy! So let's see, what have we been up to here at DJXIX? So far we've had Michael McGruder and his crew warn us that there's not one, but TWO polymorphs lurking somewhere in the Crowne Plaza. The Opening Ceremony saw one of the creatures terminated but there's still one loose... Beware, attendees. One of the fan club team is looking rather suspicious... (Clue: playing a polymorph version of myself was HUGE fun.) But thankfully we've been keeping busy with the Sleeping Quarters photobooth (complete with inflatable props), the pub quiz (hosted by Mark Dexter and Lucie Pohl), Rebecca Blackstone has been hanging around with the attendees, and now we're STILL rocking it into the wee hours - it's karaoke with Dave Benson Philips! The main action kicks off tomorrow!
